Fresh Hell
The charming Muscato reminds us August 22 is the birthday of my favorite writer, Dorothy Parker. Miss Parker was author of one of the few poems I can quote from memory:
O life is a glorious cycle of song;
A medley of extemporanea.
And love is a thing that can never go wrong.
And I am Marie of Romania.
Well, here we are.

Lady, make a note of this:
One of you is lying.
Her review of Kate Hepburn's performance as "running the gamut of emotions from A to B" has to be one of the most ripped off lines ever.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite has always been the end of her review of one of A.A. Milnes's Pooh books:
ReplyDeleteAnd it is that word 'hummy,' my darlings, that marks the first place in The House at Pooh Corner at which Tonstant Weader fwowed up.
You know, I'm not that familiar with Dorothy Parker's work.
ReplyDeleteI know, I know...how could I NOT be a friend of Dorothy's...
One of my favorites of hers is:
ReplyDelete"A girl's best friend is her mutter."
She's great. One of my favorites, too. I have a martini glass with her lines:
ReplyDeleteI like to have a martini
Two at the very most
Three I'm under the table
Four I'm under the host
You KNOW that is one of my all-time favorites!
